The Friends were formed in 1984 as a charitable, non-profit organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1954 and to promote directly the historical, scientific, educational and interpretive activities of Thomas Edison National Historical Park and to:

  1. Stimulate interest in the West Orange Laboratory of Thomas A. Edison and his home “Glenmont”, now National Park Service sites, and to generate appreciation of its heritage and history;
  2. Assist in planning and sponsoring special events related to and supporting Thomas Edison NHP;
  3. Conduct fundraising projects for the purpose of sustaining the functions of the Friends of Edison and in support of the preservation, historic, scientific and interpretive activities of Edison NHP.
